Call for singers
Calling men and women of all ages, including high school juniors and seniors, and college students (Puccini writes for a large group of older students.)
Act II is a lively, chaotic market scene that includes children, mothers, citizens, students, street vendors - and more. This will be a lightly-staged concert performance of the opera, so choristers may hold the score during performance, though being as "off-book" as possible will help!
The choruses will be sung in Italian, which we will work on together in rehearsals, along with the music.
Cary Ratcliff, Artistic Director of Madrigalia, will train the Madrigalia Festival Chorus. Rehearsals will be fun and efficient. All singers will combine toward the end of rehearsals.
what we are looking for
Singers with accurate pitch and secure rhythm, who sing with a minimum of vibrato to ensure a good choral blend. Blended choral singing with minimal vibrato will make us sound terrific!!
The audition periods will begin with a 20-minute group rehearsal of the selected choral passages. Singers will then audition individually (with light piano accompaniment).
Auditions will be held Thursday, March 2 and Saturday, March 4.
