MADRIGALIA SEEKING ALTO
Madrigalia Auditions November 15-December 20, 2015, Seeking Alto 1 or 2 (preference for low range capability), female or male. For Alto opening beginning January 10, 2016. Madrigalia is a Sunday evening rehearsal group, of 20 choral singers.
What we are looking for
Madrigalia places a premium on accurate singing and the beauty of our blended sound.
We sing with raised soft palates (like Julia Child), vertical vowels, and either no or very little vibrato.
We sing in mixed formation much of the time, often in 8 parts a capella, so one should be solid in independant singing.
Members of the group are strong readers, allowing us to learn works with rhythmic, intervallic and stylistic challenges quickly.
We welcome curious minds and convivial spirits.
Download these pages of music to prepare. If you cannot download them, contact firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will set up a time for you to audition with me (Park Avenue area). Bring a vocal solo or choral work of your own to sing, if you like; I will accompany at the piano. We will vocalise a little, you will sing the prepared selections, and I will also ask you do some moderately challenging sight-reading. I will do my best to make you comfortable. We both want you at your best!

ALTO: Here are two pieces from recent Madrigalia concerts. Please learn the Alto part to pages 2-6 of "Green Fields". And with "Cant Dels Ocells", ignore the language, but learn both the first verse of the Mezzo-Soprano solo (sing it on any single syllable, such as 'la'), and also the complete alto part (on 'oo'), taking the lower divisi when there is one. I will have you sing them a capella, or I may supply some harmonic underpinning at the piano.
